There?? Anybody???
Hi,
I have written GRE in old format (Score:: Total - 1240, Quants - 770, Verbal - 470, AWA - 3.0). My TOEFL score is 99/120 (R-23, L-23, S-26, W-27)
I hold B.E. degree in Computer Science from Pune University and have 2+ years of experience in IT Industry for software development.
My SSC, HSC and B.E. agg. marks are -
SSC - 85.86%
HSC - 81%
B.E.(aggregate) - 68% (First Class with Distinction)
I've applied for fall 2012. Please let me know what are the chances of getting admits from following univs -
i. ASU, Tempe
ii. Indiana University, Bloomington
iii. Texas A&M, College Station
iv. USC, Los Angeles
v. SUNY, Stony Brook
vi. SUNY, Buffalo
vii. University of Florida, Gainesville
viii. North Carolina State University
There?? Anybody???
Arizona State University - Safe
Indiana University - Moderate
Texas A&M, College Station - Moderate [As far as i remember it requires 1300+ GRE]
University of Southern California - Tough [Chances are there because of your exp but it requires 70+ acads]
Stony Brook University, SUNY - Moderate
University at Buffalo, SUNY - Moderate [requires 70+ acads but your exp can replace that i think not sure about it]
University of Florida - Rejection [University is very selective about MS in CS]
North Carolina State University - Rejection [University is very selective about MS in CS]
My advice would be to try for some state universities as their fees are low, financial aid chances are high and a great academic background.
Ohio State University
Michigan State University
University of California System (preferable Santa Cruz / San Diego / Davis / Irvine)
All the Best for your future!
Thanks Sherzil!
@Kruthartha: I've already applied to the univs which I mentioned. I need to check for the ones which Sherzil suggested. Thanks anyway!
Hi,
I got an admit from Indiana University yesterday. They're offering me the financial aid just $1500/year. I have not got any other offer yet. Should I wait for the decisions from other universitites (the deadline for Indiana's offer is 15th April) or should I accept this offer? Also even if I accept this offer I can accept another more impressive offer right?(Provided I should inform Indiana regarding denial)
Please guide me on this front.
Thanks!
Congratulations on your admission in Indiana University. Have you received the i20 or just a confirmation mail from the university? Have you applied to the universities that i suggested?? If yes, i would suggest you to wait for responses from them as their are chances that you might get better aid options.
Thanks Sherzil! I got the confirmation email from the univ, no I-20 yet. I checked for Ohio, Michigan and other state universities suggested by you but unfortunately their deadlines with financial aid have been crossed. So, I didn't apply to them as I wouldn't have received the aid even if I would have applied.
Hi again, I had applied to University of Washington, Bothell Campus (sorry i forgot to mention that in the list above). I got an admit for MS in Computing and Software Systems there. Can you please tell me how UWB is compared to Indiana University, Bloomington considering the job prospects after completing MS. I'm more concerned about the internship and placements after completing MS as IU I assume is better for the research/ PhD. Please guide.
Please reply..
Hi Aparna, your TOEFL score is good enough to get teaching assistanceship in some universities. Check in the univ website about mininmum cutoff score in toefl to get RA/TA/GA besides scholarship as you can earn more through that. You should have also applied to 1. University of Houston-Main Campus -- good funding for international students, urban location so plenty of part-time jobs with low cost of living, good internship opps. 2.) Illinois Institute of Technology-Chicago -- good internship options with distance education facility to complete last 2 semesters from anywhere in U.S, plenty of part & full time jobs. Rules may have changed, so confirm once again from the website.
