its worth applying. Do u have any papers or projects? cuz those add value to ur profile...backlogs are fine as long as u cleared them.
Like stated before, its late for fall...u can still apply but decent unis would be done.
But before u apply, do good research on the unis...try the profile evaluation in msinus.com....and also try *********.com
If at all u get just avg unis, dont worry. U can always earn extra credit and transfer
hi.... My Gre Score(From Powerprep tool)
verbal= (280 to 380) and quant= (750 to 800).
Interested field = Embedded systems .
Undergrad score=80%.
Please suggest the universities i can apply for ..... Approx...
Well, the powerprep tool is fine but not always very accurate. I took 6 mock tests and scored from 1380-1510...but finally in gre i got only 1260. My verbal went down to 540. Whereas without any prep, my toefl came in at 117...so try to shortlist realistically AFTER u give ur gre...
Ur UG score is good. But its YOU who has to choose the unis. Look at the research they are doing...if u wanna try analog VLSI oregon state is fantastic. for digital its U MASS Amherst.
Do a little hunting. choose 10-15 unis and then post them asking for opinion
CHeers!
thanks a lot for the insights , Akshay.. Any idea what is an ideal score in the new format, so that u can get into decent universities?
in the old format, for quants, anything above 700 is preferred. anything above 750 is very safe...verbal, well, try to touch 450+...or else try to jack up ur toefl score.
See, the point is, its a VAST system. Ur MS admits are based on GRE, TOEFL, UG%, Extra curriculurs, Internships, Work experience, ur LORs, ur SOP, and mainly the stream u choose (the more preferred ones like Embeded or VLSI or Wireless have lotta competition).
The main point is that ur admits are NOT based on ALL the above...diff unis hv diff weightage for diff factors. Some may take u with 65% marks and good gre. But UT Dallas has been knwn to reject ppl with 60% marks (1350 gre) and accept 78% marks (1250 gre).
But for a rough estimate i'd say, anything above 1200 in old pattern is good for getting decent admits. touch abve 1340 or 1400 and ur chances are very good for top notch unis (not fro the ivy league or the big boys lik caltech, UIUC, U Wisc etc).
try the profile eval section in msinus.com and also try *********.com...dont worry too much abt ur gre score. I have seen tht it helps, but its NOT the deciding factoru could try canadian schools too...they need just toefl/ielts scores
Hope this helps!
Thanks a lot dude....i will try my level best to get the expected score. I have my GRE exam on 22nd march.
Hi finished my GRE on 22nd march. Score 305/340.( v=142,q=163). My field of interest is EMBEDDED SYSTEMS. Undergrad percentage is 80%. Working as an intern in Li2-inovations.(robotic start up company).
Colleges i am looking for:
Arizona State University(ASU)
Carnegie Mellon University(CMU)
Columbia University
Georgia Tech (Gtech)
Iowa State University(ISU)
Okland University
Penn State University
Texas A&M
The University of Texas at Austin
TU Eindhoven
UC - Boulder
UNC Charlotte
University of California, Irvine(UCI)
University of California, San Diego
University of California, Santa Barbara
University of Maryland, College Park
University of Massachusetts Amherst
University of pennsylvania
University of Wisconsin–Madison
Utah State University
Vanderbilt University
Virginia Tech(Vtech)
well, safe would be ASU, ISU, Oakland, maybe UC boulder, Utah state. (i hv no idea abt vanderbilt)
Moderate chances are at UNC and maybe Vtech (tht too cuz i have known a few ppl with ur sorta profile manage admits there).
Rest are all ambitious for you. U'll need even better GRE and some solid work experience if not for research apapers/publications.
U massachusets may be the ambi among the lot that u can still think about. Others, Tough luck dude.
