    MS in Robotics | GRE 311 | EEE 84 | 2 yrs exp

    Hi all,

After a tough decision, I've planned to quit my job (which I love very much) and pursue my Masters in Robotics (specializing in Industrial Automation). I've mentioned my profile below for seniors to evaluate and comment.

    UG - EEE - SVCE, Chennai - 84% (topper's was 89%)
    GRE - 311 (Q 161, V 150, AWA 4)
TOEFL - Booked on August 16 (expecting 100 plus)

WORK EXPERIENCE - 2 years as Robotics Applications Engineer in Major American MNC

    INTERNS:
    1. 1 month intern at ISRO, Sriharikota, Dept of Solid Propellant and Rocket Boosters - Programmed a 7 axis machine used in Non Destructive Testing of Solid Propellant.

    2. 6 months intern at IIT-Madras, Ocean Engineering Department - Programmed a 5 axis machine used to generate Ocean Waves to simulate some processes.

    AWARDS AND HONORS:
    1. Indian National Academy of Engineering - Innovative Student Projects Award 2011 - National level Journal Publication and Award.

    2. Best Undergraduate Project 2011 of my Department - college level.

    3. Two prizes at National Level robotic competitions at SRM university and SVCE.

    4. Attended two workshops - one on image processing and other on control of robots.

    5. Headed my department's Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers as the President and conducted symposiums, workshops and guest lectures.

I've shortlisted the following universities based on other ****** posts of people having similar scores and aspiring for Robotics Dept. I leave the rest to the seniors and almighty!
KINDLY TAKE YOUR TIME AND SELECT THE BEST SIX OUT OF THIS LIST.

    1. Carnegie Mellon University - The Robotics Institute - Master of Robotic Systems Development or MS in Robotics
    2. University of Pennsylvania - GRASP Lab
    3. University of Southern California - Viterbi School

You probably might have a good chance in most of them as your course is robotics, no. of people applying for might be less but the intake might also be less.
But univ like cmu, texas austin, pennsylvania, georgia prefer profiles with higher gre than you.Saying that you might have a chance because of good acads.cinncinati,SUNY buffalo,ASU are definitely safe for you.

    Hi Vijay,

    Hi Vijay,

I must say your credentials are impressive. I am just finishing my BE in 2014. Like you I would like to gain some work experience before I go abroad for MS in Robotics. I would appreciate if you could please help me with the Name of the Major American MNC where you gained 2 years work experience as Robotics Applications Engineer.

    Thanx for your help.

All the Very Best to you!

    Regds

    Hi seniors,

I'm very happy that I got 4 admits out of the 10 universities I had applied for.
    1. Carnegie Mellon University - MS in Robotics and MRSD - both rejects
    2. University of Pennsylvania - MS in Electrical Engineering - reject
    3. Georgia Institute of Technology - MS in Electrical Engineering - reject
    4. North Carolina State University - MS in Electrical Engineering - reject
    5. Rensselear Polytechnic Institute - MS in Electrical Engineering - reject
    6. University of Southern California - MS in Electrical Engineering - reject
    7. University of Utah - MS in Mechanical Engineering - Robotics Track - admit
    8. University of Florida - MS in Electrical Engineering - admit
    9. Worcester Polytechnic Institute - MS in Robotics - admit
    10. University of Maryland, College Park - MS in Electrical Engineering - admit

After lot of brainstorming, I've decided to attend the University of Maryland at College Park because of the following reasons:
    1. It ranks 14 for Electical Engineering
    2. It ranks among top 5 for Image Processing (which I'll definitely study as I'll specialize in robotics)
    3. The awesome Maryland Robotics Laboratory
    4. Prof. P.S. Krishnaprasad and Prof. Sarah Bergbreiter
    5. Campus is just 13 kms from Washington DC!!!
    6. Pennsylvania, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, and all hot spots of industrial automation (my field of interest) lie in very close proximity. I don't need to spend on flight. Can comfortably travel in train or bus.
    7. Maryland has all 4 seasons! B-)
    8. Because its MARYLAND!!!

Thanks to all the seniors who helped me.

and to answer your question @[skrish5] I worked for the past 3 years with Parker Hannifin India Pvt Ltd (parker.com). Specifically in the industrial automation division (parkermotion.com).
But I'm really sorry to tell you that we don't recruit freshers from colleges other than SVCE (EEE and Mech), SRM (Mechatronics), NIT Calicut (Production) and BVP Pune and Mumbai campus (EE, Mech and Production).
