Here's my take on your profile..

TAMU(great prospects and courses in VLSI,highly affordable, your NIT tag will help!!, well reputed)

UT Austin(Ambi, excellent school, highly reputed, tough to get into)

Gatech(Ambish-mod,good chances, must apply, this too has good intake, highly reputed tech college)

USC(safe because of huge intake, great courses for digital/analog/mixed signal VLSI, great prospects as its in California, and well reputed among companies. )

NCSU, UMTC, UCLA(safe, safe, mod, all good and well reputed for VLSI, must apply)

Apart from these look for UMich AA(Ambi), UCSD, UCSB, UIUC(Ambi) and UMCP.

    Hope this helps for starters!!

CMU- Yes(Reputed, but very very costly and huge career prospects...Intel, Accenture, IBM, Harris, Bank of America, Microsoft, Oracle, Nvidia all o thm pick up students on a regular basis and at fantastic salaries....), Clemson- NO(I think it's very safe for your profile and haven't hrd much abt its VLSI) should drop, not worth it, if you want some more safe but reputed universities...for analog vlsi...u can go for Arizona State U, Oregon state U....and for digital ....U of Cincinnati....and I forgot to mention it before...Purdue University(prefers students with some research background) shud also be great if u get in...good research and excellent placements...

And Lastly, Pls dont call me sir....I am a 2011 passout....going to USC this fall....all this info....gained thru exp. by research in ******(fantastic site, u shud post ur future queries there)

Thank you so much for replying to my querries.I am entering into final year now , really tensed about getting into a good university. I am planning to apply to 10 universities. They are Tamu, purdue, Gorgia tech, USC, Ucla ,Uiuc , umtc, columbia and yale universities.
Please let me know the chances of admission in these colleges and funding is not a problem. Also any suggestions to enhance my profile will be welcome.I have completed a project in iitm, also done an inplant training in vodafone.i also have to my credit a project in marketting and currently pursuing one in cloud computing.i have published a paper on the same as well.my ge score is 322(159-verbal,163-quantz,awa-4). My 10th and 12 th scores are 93% in both and have a cgpa of 8.5.I have already obtained 6 LORs from my profs.i also have numerous certificates for extracurricular activities.as i already mentioned im pursuing ece at nit trichy.can you also tellme how much do we have to show in our bank statement?

Firstly, 10th & 12th marks don't matter anymore..u can mention them as ur academic acheivements or consistency in ur SOP...but I dont think it will influence the adcoms as much as ur undergraduate GPA...which u shud concentrate upon at the moment and try to improve it(and in No way do I mean it is bad rite now)...u still have ur final year left...so u have both time and chances with u..
U will definitely make thru TAMU, UMTC & USC(unless somethin strange happens...God forbid)...prepare ur SOP well and all ur LORs shud rate u good(V.IMP).
UCLA, Gatech & Columbia are all gettable...u have very good chances..actually they tend towards higher GRE scores...so improve ur profile as much as u can...but u do have a fair shot.
UIUC and Purdue are a bit ambi as they tend to prefer students with some research exp. during their under-graduate...but nevertheless u shud give it a try....
I donno if u shud go wid Yale...as its not so popular for VLSI...instead try for UMichigan Ann Arbor ...an excellent and well reputed university.

Try to do some more VLSI related projects to improve ur profile further..extracurriculars are ok...but try to work under a prof. for a project relevant to your field...it will help improve ur profile greatly...publish a paper under him...or as his co author..this will help...and additionally 2-3 months before ur applications....try to establish a contact with some profs. from the targetted universities...this helps during admission decisions...but do look at their websites...if they encourage that...as some universities do(Ex. TAMU(Sunil Khatri for VLSI)) and some don't(Ex. UCSB)..but it shud not b a problem...just try...I dont think ur courses with marketing and cloud computing wud be relevant as they fall outside VLSI....but u can project them to show ur versatility....

Financially...I am not sure I am the rite guy...as I myself will go for studies this year...But typically all these colleges will require huge amounts of money(to give u a rough idea...it can be in between 30- 60 lacs..DO refer to others POV)....except TAMU and purdue.

I would avoid USC because there are too many students who compete for the same few internships and jobs. You should be able to get in to TAMU. The key at this point is your SOP - this is what will get you into the top schools. Contact me (Rajkamal Rao) by googling Rao Advisors and I will be glad to help.

What is your field? You could get in depending upon what you want to study. It is getting tougher to get into schools with a <290 GRE score although you can try. If your TOEFL is above 100, you could overcome the lower verbal score a bit. A strong SOP will help. Your GPA, LORs and project experiences are important too.
