    Profile evaluation :digital VLSI & signal processing

    Hi, I'm in my final year BE at BITS. I plan on applying for fall 2013. Can some please help evaluate my profile? I'm interested in Digital VLSI or Signal processing.
    XIIth = 96%
    CGPA = 7.6/10
    GRE = 329 (V=165, Q=164, AW=4)
    TOEFL = 108
    branch = electornics & instrumentation.
    5 1/2 months internship in HP Labs, India.

    I'm aware my CGPA is not very good, but if it matters at all, my GPA for each semester has been steadily increasing from 5.8(1st sem) to 9(in the last sem).

    How good (or bad) are my chances of getting into the following universities :
    Stanford
    UC Berkeley
    University of Illinois Urbana Campaign
    Georgia Institute of Technology
    Carnegie Mellon University
    University of Michigan
    Cornell University
    Purdue University
    UCLA
    UT Austin
    USC
    university of Washington
    university of Wisconsin
    University of Minnesota
    UC Santa Barbara
    UC irvine
    UC San Diego

    Also, (this might be a stupid question) since i am from instrumentation background, am i eligible for applying to VLSI & signal proccessing?

    ....do you know that your list leans towards ambitious universities..y?
    answer is.....CGPA...
    ....Anyway....i ll say my opinion.....coz no one can change the gpa s....and by the way....gud GRE....ill tell u that.... abt ur list ...all are very ambitious......seeing ur selection...one may think that this aspirant have got more research to do abt colleges....
    Do u know what i would advice......GO WITH THE COURSE U LIKE......don't see the reputation of univs......

    P.S.....Gre is not the only criteria that one should consider......i have seen many, with excellent profile go to 2nd tier universities and coming out with flying colors.......please research a bit more.....
    I advice u to join many more social networking sites

    thank you sudharshan for your advice. I did a little more research and this is the list i came up with :

    Georgia tech
    Univ of michigan
    Pennsylvania state univ
    Purdue,west laf
    USC
    Cornell
    UC, Irvine
    University of Minnesota, Twin cities
    Univ of Florida,gainsville
    North carolina state university
    Arizona State University (Fulton)
    Iowa state university
    university of rochester
    UMass, Amherst
    UT Dallas
    University of Cincinnati
    Clemson University

    Someone please evaluate this list. Also suggest any good univs for DVLSI/DSP which you think are within my reach.

    Ok....that list looks good...and possibly all are in your hands if you apply......again i will let this thread tell you that there are other criteria.....for example....a bad SOP can shatter your dreams....even LORs are vital to your profile.........
    SO...back to your selections....all are gud for you...some of them may be a waltz in a park....like UTD.....and other a bit mod...like purdue.............and i cannot point out anymore colleges...maybe seniors can help....
    P.S....if u r applying for all the above colleges ...i would severly discourage u doin that...coz...THAT S TOO MANY.....3-safe,3-mod,2-ambi.....would be gud.....

    Thanks for your help No i'm not going to apply to all. I was thinking around 7-10 unis. So i would appreciate it if someone rated the above list as ambi/mod/safe so that i can pick 10 from them. Seniors... please help

    Though I'm not a Senior, I finished my Final year and saw the admission trends when my friends were applying for Fall '12. Though your GPA is low, factors like the topper's GPA, the college from which you received it, certain factors that affected your performance in exams, will all be scrutinized carefully if you explain them lucidly to the evaluator. Also, internships, work experience, paper publications are evidence of your research background, especially if they are in a relevant field. Try for very strong LORs from people who worked closely with you and are experienced in writing LORs. This will build your chances. Good Luck!!!

    Thank you Although my CGPA is low, my GPA for final year is good (i got a 9 last sem). I got good grades in the courses related to the field of my interest & i even topped the Analog & digital VLSI course in my batch. So i'm hoping this will make up for the low CGPA.

    Sadly, i haven't done any relevant work in this field. I do have a project (related to CAD) lined up for next semester. I'm currently doing internship at HP Labs research division (though it is related to CS & coding).

    I hope to get 2 good recos atleast (1 from my colg prof & 1 from my mentor at HP Labs... he is a research scientist but not in VLSI field). I hope i get into a good uni
