Profile Evaluation! Please? :) Fall 2013|ECE|MS|(VLSI/Embedded Systems)

    Hi!

Could you guys please take a minute to go through my profile and let me know what you think? I'd be extremely grateful if you guys could help me out

    10th: 91.8% ; 12th stateboard: 94.7%
    UG CGPA: 9.09
    College: IIT Guwahati
GRE: Took revised GRE; score 333(Q-168;V-165;AWA-5.5); I'm not sure what is the converted score in the old GRE pattern.

    TOEFL: 118
    Dept./specialisation: Elec & comm

Papers: None yet. But I hope to submit a paper soon

I'm not really sure where I should apply, although this is a general list of the universities I've been thinking about. Do let me know what you think. I know that all of the universities are highly ambitious :P I would be grateful if someone could suggest some safe colleges for me. Thanks!

    Hi!

Firstly, there is no need to mention your 10th and 12th scores. Not really important.

Your CGPA, GRE and TOEFL scores are stellar The fact that you're from an IIT adds so much more substance to your profile.

Besides this, aren't VLSI and Embedded systems two different topics? You should consider choosing one of them and applying based on that- since many universities would not look upon you with much interest if you vacillate in your SOP.

Your SOP is probably the most important factor- it would help if you've already made a start, and written at least 3-4 drafts by now. This is the only avenue through which the admissions council can understand you as a person- your hopes, dreams, ambitions, etc. It would be great if you could get your SOP proof-read by as many people as possible- especially by people who don't know you too well. Your letters of recommendation also carry a lot of weight in this regard.

Also, it would help if you had a couple of good research interns you could add to your profile. Have you done any such internships?

I don't really know any safe colleges to suggest. From what i see, most of these are already safe for you :P

    Best of luck!

    Thanks!

Hey! Thank you so much for replying

Umm, I have done a couple of research projects. At TU Delft and IIIT-Hyderabad. And I had mentioned Embedded systems because I'm still considering my options, although I'm leaning more towards VLSI as of now.

Anyways, thank you so much for your help. I haven't started work on my SOP's as of now But I intend to start right away. Hopefully I'll be able to get a draft ready soon.

Please do let me know if you think of any other colleges at some later stage. Thanks a lot!
