What about OPT ? If you receive a 2 year VISA, would you be able to do one year OPT after course completion? This would be a problem I guess.

You can get extension of Visa very easily. Apply 6-7 months for extension before your Visa expires. Even if your visa expires and your i20 is active. yOU can stay in US and get extension before you leave US.

It's not atall a big problem.

Visa is considered as only the entry ticket to USA or any country. Once you are here, you have to maintain your status. So even if your visa gets expire after 2 years you can still live here, but you are out of status. So in that case, you have to be in status. So If you get OPT after 2 years, your status will be employeed and you will be in status.

The only things matters is that, with expire visa is that you can't re-enter US. If you have employement letter with expire visa, you are good. You can stay here. And you have to renew it.
Hope this piece of information will help. Relax and get ready for USA trip !!!!!!!!!!

    Hi all

I am in a similar situation and my F 1 expired may 2015. I have my i20 valued till may 2016. Can I apply for f1 extension being in U.S. Or I need to go back to my home country to get it renewed which I believe will be risky

I have a doubt in student visa, if I am going to do my MS for two year course then what will be my visa period. If the visa is provided for 5 years. If I complete my course within 2 years then I have free time for next 3 years and can I search job for next 3 years or should I get a job within 1 year
