2nd - attempt - rejected for bad acads - 2008 july - chennai - cal state , northridge
3rd - attempt - rejeceted for bad acads - 2012 june 26th - hyderabad - university of Illinois - Springfield

counter 13 , officer looked in his late 20's - early 30's .

vo - i assume u have a low verbal score let me see ur gre card
vo - ur quant is above average but verbal is very low , it falls under 13%
vo - i could have granted ur visa provided i have something positive about ur acads , i agree u have a good job experience but ur backlogs r too much , american students cannot go to the next semester if they have 2 backlogs .
me - sir i graduated in 2008 theres no way i can change that however i took up a job worked hard for the last 3years .
vo - well you had over 4 years to improve ur gre
me - i've taken toefl - 100
vo - m sorry i cannot grant you the visa
me - sir what do u suggest i do now
vo - we are not suppose to advise on this , but if i were you i would retake the gre

was a pretty long conversation , it was good/smooth he spoke well made me understand whats lacking ..

well my acads r really bad i agree cant change any of it now though ...

Here is what i have thought of please let me know what should be the best

- retake the gre and apply for the visa within a month (too short to prepare for gre - worth giving a shot )
- defer the application for spring and meanwhile prepare for gre
- consultant advise - go to chennai and try once .

please suggest if it makes sense to actually take the GRE again and apply for visa ? cos i was under the impression that gre is for the universities and not for the visa officers .

you must have given the GRE again before u tried for the 3rd attempt..I suggest you to defer your admission and retake GRE...U can't improve your score all of a sudden in a month.. Try to show a significant change in your scores specially verbal score. Thus, U can get through it easily..

Thanks for your response Aady , yes that's one big mistake I made , I assumed that GRE was only for the university to gauge my analytical/reasoning skills .

For now I am considering 2 options , give the GRE now like in a months time (not sure if ll crack it , worth a try though as I still have sometime left ) i know a month of preparation is enough for probably 50% of the syllabus , m gonna take that chance .If i fail in that then m gonna defer the application to Spring and retake the GRE around oct .

lots of money at stake in this though ..
