How to transfer university in USA?
An international student (
F1 Visa
)transferring from one university to
another university is common in USA. A transfer of a student’s
SEVIS record from one institution to another allows a student to
keep his or her unique ID number, and maintain this number for
the duration of his or her stay in the US is critical for
keeping your legal status.
General factors that leads to university transfer:

Lack of funding opportunities
in the current university.

Receiving Bad grades in exams
or Tough course work
3)
Want to change the location
or misllenious factors.
Procedure to transfer universities in USA / SEVIS Transfer
STEP1: Your new school will give you a SEVIS Transfer
from which should be filled by the international Student advisor
at your old school. Some schools directly send this transfer
from to your university.
STEP2: You old school fill that SEVIS transfer
form and send it to new university by email or fax.
STEP3: Your old university will release your SEVIS
records to new school. This is called as SEVIS Transfer.
STEP4: New school will issue a new i-20 after verifying
your records.
How long does it take to
SEVIS transfer between universities?
It takes less than a week. Sometimes even in an hour. It just
depends on how quickly your current school responds to new
school.
Can I transfer to new
school before I start first semester?
Yes, But only few universities accept it. Different universities
follow different rules. Generally speaking universities expect
you to complete the first semester with them. So, most of the
universities allow transfer after the completion of first
semester.
What
is the Effect of transfer on Work?
On-campus work may only be performed at the school which holds
your SEVIS record. Once your SEVIS record is transferred to the
transfer in school, your work must end at transfer out school.
Notes:
1)
If
you are traveling outside the US prior to beginning the program
at your new school, please be advised that you must re-enter the
US with the new school’s I-20.
2)
You must report to the new school within
15 days of the start of the new SEVIS document.
