are you doing project in some company? then its good as you can easily get LOR from your head..
if you are doing a project(say hobby stuff) then it might not help that much
continue with BE project? like working there??
i think that the dream colleges like MIT Caltech etc are slightly far from your reach. you can get into NCSU,UCSD,UTD,UT -Austin,university of Wisconsin -Madison. as i am a newbie i dont know about...

i believe your GRE score is more than 1 year old. if it is more than 2 years old then universities kind of neglect these scores.
