Can B.E Mechanical Engineering graduate get admission in MS Software Enginnering?

Hello all,

I got my B.E Mechanical Engineering graduation in 2001 with distinction from Madras university. And, I am a certified Project Management Professional PMP by PMI (USA) and an entrepreneur and would like to invest in my post-graduation now. For that, I see Software Engineering as a highly demanded area and has good future. More than this, I like this and have confidence that I should continue to get the doctorate as well in the next 5-6 years from now.

Though I have made up my mind for taking this mission, I need to know if the top US universities such as Florida University or MIT and so on., will allow a Mechanical Engineering candidate to take MS in Software Engineering.

Please advise what will be the requirements for this? I believe there must be more like me to have made a change in the core field.

FYI., I don't have experience software engineering but I have a sort of gut feeling and strong thirst for exploring this domain with proper education and may focus on entrepreneurial endeavors using plenty of business opportunities that software engineering unfolds for any start-up company. The reason for planning to obtain doctorate is that I wish I do spend my later years in teaching the students in India to empower them with International expertise.
