Visa approved til course end date only

    Hi guys,
I have a question. I got my visa approved till the course end date mentioned on my i20. Is this going to cause any sorts of problems during immigration? The University has said they will provide a new i20 for opt. So is it advisable to take this i20 and re-apply for visa interview in December 2017? I hope this doesn't cause any problems.. Everyone I know has a five year visa. Please help!

    Hello,
I am Avani from Pune. I have been accepted as a PhD student at Iowa State University. I gave my F1 student Visa interview on 7th June 2016. I was handed the green 221g form. I mailed the required documents on 10th June. My Visa was approved on 29th June and was ready to be collected on 7th July. The Visa expiry date is 4th July 2020 whereas the tentative course completion date on my I20 is 7th August 2021. What do I do in this case? Everyone I know has been given Visa for 5 years at least, even MS students with coursework of 2 years. Will I have to get my Visa renewed during the course of my PhD?

I have a doubt in student visa, if I am going to do my MS for two year course then what will be my visa period. If the visa is provided for 5 years. If I complete my course within 2 years then I have free time for next 3 years and can I search job for next 3 years or should I get a job within 1 year

It's not atall a big problem.

Visa is considered as only the entry ticket to USA or any country. Once you are here, you have to maintain your status. So even if your visa gets expire after 2 years you can still live here, but you are out of status. So in that case, you have to be in status. So If you get OPT after 2 years, your status will be employeed and you will be in status.

The only things matters is that, with expire visa is that you can't re-enter US. If you have employement letter with expire visa, you are good. You can stay here. And you have to renew it.
Hope this piece of information will help. Relax and get ready for USA trip !!!!!!!!!!

You can get extension of Visa very easily. Apply 6-7 months for extension before your Visa expires. Even if your visa expires and your i20 is active. yOU can stay in US and get extension before you leave US.
