• Does it make sense to do MS if you will return back to India in some time?

    Hello Seniors and friends,

    I am applying for fall 2014 for MS in CS. Fortunately, I also got placed in IBM last week.
    However, I have a query : My family doesn't want me to settle in USA. They want me to go there, pursue my Master's and then return back with 1-2 years of experience. Now I cannot decide what will be better for me. Of course I understand no knowledge goes waste, but does it really make sense to spend so much amount (in lacs) and then return back just after 2 years of work ex from USA ?

    Will opportunities be any better when I come back to India, or it wont make much of a difference?

    Should I take the straight forward channel and join IBM now and cancel my plan for studies abroad, or a Master's will anyway be much better whether or not I stay in USA long term ?

    Please give your valuable suggestions/opinions. I will be thankful.

      If you plan to return back to India, there is no point in wasting your parents hard earned money in doing MS from US. MS does not add any value if you will be doing a job in India.

      It depends on hte package that you are going to get in IBM. IF IT IS AROUND 3-3.25 Lkas then i would suggest you to do Ms. And then come back. If ur placed at 6 lks PER ANUM THEN DONT WASTE your parents money since IBM would also be sending you for frqeutn onsite opportunites...

      dont wast money for ms i am the sufferer of the same possition my daughter is in tcs and she left that job to do ms in us but after going for ms in us i feel
      it is just west of my money because there is still no guarntee of job in us
