• Convert Percentage to GPA for US Universities

    International students applying to US Universities usually confuse different methods of converting their percentage scale into GPA. Percentage is Popular method in India. Few schools in India will use CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) System of academic evaluation. Let me give you a simple formula to convert Percentage into GPA.

    Convert Percentage to GPA - Method 1 (India)

    Calculating GPA from percentage is very simple. US GPA is 4 point scale. Indian percentage is for 100% which is nothing but 100 points. So, 25 points in percentage is equivalent to 1 point in GPA System.

    Percentage to GPA formula: Just divide your percentage by 100 and multiply by 4. If your percentage is 75, then (75/100)*4 = 3.

    Percentage to GPA Conversion- Method 2 (Some Other countries)

    Some other countries will follow the way where a particular range of percentage is dedicated to particular GPA point.

    Which is correct method of percentage to GPA Conversion?

    Even though these are the general ways to calculate, they are not official. These formulas are just for a rough estimate. Each US University has its own way of GPA Calculation. So, just enter a rough GPA value in the university application. They will calculate based on your scores in the transcripts.

      Actually anything above 60% in the indian system is considered is considered as 4/4 GPA in the american system.Therefore a percentage of 50% is a GPA of 3/4.

      yeah exactly when u first convert Ur percentage to cgpa and then compare with Tht chart it's totally diff for example a person with 70% when converted to cgpa comes to 7.75 ((70/10)+0.75) than the chart shows 3.3 gpa

      My gpa is 2.6 out of 4.0 . Will this gpa out of 4.0 also get converted to US perimeters or will this remain same as it already is in 4 scale.?

      i can corroborate with you santhosh but then, a few websites state that most universities dont require conversion to 4 point scale. can you look a bit and verify?

      LOL, then its hilarious! Cause we who get 95% marks are considered in the same category as the people with 60% marks! WTF. US should improve their grading system!
