How to change or transfer University after F1 Visa Stamping

Student's Question:

Sir..i got F1 visa to Cleaveland State univ for Spring 2011. But now i got i20 to TAMU. can i tranfer to TAMU before entering US?

Answer:

you have two options

1) Attend the visa interview again with TAMU i20.

DSO Guidance for Students at Transfer-Out Schools

2.1.   Your student says, “I have my visa, but I have not entered the United States to attend school. I have changed my mind and want to attend a school different from that listed on my visa. I have a Form I-20 from the new school. What do I do?”

Advise the student to get a new visa issued for the new school before entering the United States, rather than transferring after entering the United States. This is required by 8 CFR 214.2(f)(1)(C).

2) Enter into USA with CSU Visa to attend the school. And after joining CSU ask international student advisor to transfer your SEVIS to TAMU. Some universities may not accept the transfer in the 1st sem.
