• # Convert Percentage to GPA for US Universities

International students applying to US Universities usually confuse different methods of converting their percentage scale into GPA. Percentage is Popular method in India. Few schools in India will use CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) System of academic evaluation. Let me give you a simple formula to convert Percentage into GPA.

Convert Percentage to GPA - Method 1 (India)

Calculating GPA from percentage is very simple. US GPA is 4 point scale. Indian percentage is for 100% which is nothing but 100 points. So, 25 points in percentage is equivalent to 1 point in GPA System.

Percentage to GPA formula: Just divide your percentage by 100 and multiply by 4. If your percentage is 75, then (75/100)*4 = 3.

Percentage to GPA Conversion- Method 2 (Some Other countries)

Some other countries will follow the way where a particular range of percentage is dedicated to particular GPA point.

 Percentage GPA 85 - 100 4 80 - 84 3.7 75 - 79 3.3 70 - 74 3 65 - 69 2.7 60 - 64 2.3 55 - 59 2 50 - 54 1.7 45 - 49 1.3 40 - 44 1 0 - 39 0

Which is correct method of percentage to GPA Conversion?

Even though these are the general ways to calculate, they are not official. These formulas are just for a rough estimate. Each US University has its own way of GPA Calculation.
